Highs at the open, lows by the close. That’s the trend over the past few days.
Things looked good early on. And the S&P was at 2,730 around noon. But after grinding higher into the afternoon, the S&P gave it all back and closed at 2,704.
The NASDAQ has been the leader this week…But not today. After a volatile day and 80 point range, the NASDAQ couldn’t hold onto early gains and ended the day in the red.

Here’s where the major indices ended the day:
- The S&P finished with a 0.1% gain. Up 3 points, the S&P ended at 2,704.
- The DOW ended 0.7% higher. Adding 165 points, the DOW closed at 24,962.
- The NASDAQ was down 0.1% With an 8 point loss, the NASDAQ finished at 7,210.
- Bitcoin was down 4.6%. Dropping $473, Bitcoin is trading at $9,912.
Crude Oil (CL) had a nice move early, then another boost after Crude Oil Inventories showed a 1.6 million barrel decrease in U.S. stockpiles (vs. the 2.2 million barrel increase expected). Up 1.6%, CL ended at $62.69 a barrel, levels we haven’t seen in over 2 weeks.
Is Kylie Jenner driving the markets these days? Snapchat (SNAP) was smacked with a 6.1% loss today after she tweeted about her displeasure with the app.
Some really mean earnings moves today. Wayfair (W) was hammered with a 22.7% loss today. And Pandora (P) closed at lows as the company continues to struggle. Pandora finished 7.2% lower today.
Herbalife (HLF) and HP (HPQ) are reporting after the close.
There are no major reports tomorrow. But we will have some Fed commentary with FOMC Member Dudleyat 10:15am ET, FOMC Member Mester at 1:30pm ET and FOMC Member Williams at 3:40pm ET.
